Medical Provider Change from Aetna to UnitedHealthcare – FAQ
Printer-Friendly and Translations: English • Español • Tiếng Việt
What is changing?
We are switching from Aetna to UnitedHealthcare (UHC) for the CDHP (consumer driven health plan) and Bronze medical plans effective January 1, 2025.
Why are we making this change?
As medical costs continue to rise, we have to ensure we continue to provide the best value of medical care and costs to employees and the company. Moving to UHC allows for deeper network discounts and mitigates cost increases on claims and increases to employee premiums. The Aetna medical premiums were forecasted to increase by as much as 10%. The CoorsTek medical plan is self-insured and self-funded. This means that while Aetna currently manages the provider contracts and pays the medical providers, CoorsTek reimburses Aetna for all claim costs. UHC has better provider contracts and therefore costs will be lower.
What stays the same?
- Premiums – Premiums will not increase for 2025. The premiums for next year will be the same as what you are currently paying with Aetna today. .
- Plan Design – we continue to maintain the lowest deductible possible for HSA compatible plans per the IRS and no changes to out of pocket maximums.
- Health Savings Account – there is no change to your WEX HSA. You will continue to use the same card you have now and CoorsTek will continue to make contributions based on your plan enrollment.
- Kaiser – Kaiser plans remain available in Golden, Colorado, Oregon, and California with no changes to the plan design.
- Other benefits – no changes to dental, vision, or any other benefits you are enrolled in.
- Free resources – Hinge Health, Livongo, Marketplace Chaplains, and Quest onsite visits will continue.
- Open Enrollment – you will still have the opportunity to make any benefit changes during the open enrollment period of October 14 – November 4.
Can I keep my doctor?
The majority of employees and family members on the Aetna plan will have the same doctors and providers on the UHC plan. In fact, 99% of the current Aetna providers are in network with UHC.
What if my doctor is out of network with UHC?
UHC and our team will work with you to assist in identifying in-network care. You can also research providers at www.whyuhc.com/choiceplus.
Can I continue to see my doctor if they are out of network with UHC?
Yes. If you are in the CDHP plan the out-of-network services will be subject to the higher out-of-network deductible and higher out of pocket maximum. If you are in the Bronze plan, out-of-network services will not be covered by UHC; however, you could pay directly out of pocket if your doctor permits.
Transition of Care gives new UnitedHealthcare members the option to request extended coverage (through January 30, 2025) from their current, out-of-network physician at network rates for a limited time due to a specific medical condition such as, pregnancy, new or relapsed cancer, recent major surgery and other serious chronic conditions. More information can be found on the benefit website at www.coorstek.com/benefits.
What action do I need to take now?
A pre-member website and dedicated phone line will be available September 1. Prior to that date you can use the link below to search for a provider and confirm your doctor remains in-network. www.whyuhc.com/choiceplus.
In the event your current doctor is not in-network, you can use the link to find a new physician and after September 1 you can call UHC directly to assist.
Do I have to do anything now in Workday?
No. Open enrollment for all benefit plans will take place from October 14, 2024, to November 4, 2024. Full communication regarding open enrollment and all other 2025 benefit plans will be provided in early October.
Do I need to make this change during open enrollment?
No, if you are enrolled in an Aetna plan you will automatically be enrolled in the UHC CDHP or UHC Bronze plan that corresponds with your current benefits election unless you log in during open enrollment and make changes.
