Silicon Nitride

Family Overview

Silicon Nitrides (Si3N4) have a unique grain structure which delivers both exceedingly high strength and toughness and exceptionally high thermal shock resistance — making it ideal for applications with high dynamic stresses, thermal rigor, and demanding reliability requirements. Silicon nitrides also have the capacity for high-tolerance, wear-resistant finishes. This unique combination of material properties provides advantages in severe-service applications such as turbines and high-end ball bearings.

  • High toughness
  • Thermal shock resistant
  • Tight tolerances

Hot Pressed Silicon Nitride

By hot pressing silicon nitride, one can achieve nearly zero-porosity. This leads to the exceptional mechanical properties as well as corrosion resistance even in high-temperature applications.

Sintered Silicon Nitride

Sintered silicon nitride's unique grain structure provides excellent mechanical properties for durability in mechanically rigorous environments.

Ceramic Expertise

CoorsTek has broad capabilities for manufacturing Silicon Nitride including specialized manufacturing processes that produce extreme tolerances for optimal performance.
