Rotary Steerable System Rotor and Stator Subassemblies

TUNGSTEN CARBIDE IN METAL ROTOR AND STATOR SUBASSEMBLIES

Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS) are increasingly used in horizontal drilling because they produce a smoother kick-off and a straighter hole, which improves cleanout and production. These tools were once only used offshore because of costs but are now incorporated in many onshore shale formations. Rotary steerable drilling spend is a majority of the global drilling spend, so optimizing this process can have a major impact on the bottom line.

The contacting bearing surfaces in rotating RSS components experience extreme loads and abrasive wear factors.  Tungsten carbide’s hardness, strength, and toughness make it an ideal material for the bearing faces. CoorsTek provides tungsten carbide and metal Rotor and Stator sub-assemblies made to our customers’ design. We use the appropriate joining technologythat is, brazing or heat shrink technologies, followed by precision grinding to bring the size and features into specification. Using CoorsTek Rotors and Stators in your rotary steerable systems will extend equipment life, lower total cost of operations, and reduce non-productive time.
