Family Overview

Aluminas, or aluminum oxides, make up a family of technical ceramics grouped according to their purity levels. As the purity of aluminas increases, wear and corrosion resistance also generally increase — creating a continuous scale of different alumina grades, compositions, and performance.

Aluminas are used in a variety of general-purpose applications, and their grade is chosen based on the application environment. Higher purity aluminas can be formulated for more demanding applications.
